“You are a strange,
peculiar man. You’re fun.” ~
HAPPY FIRST ANNIVERSARY!
ago, today (November 3), “Murder on the Orient Express” premièred in the UK theatres. One day before, the movie premiered at
Royal Albert Hall, in London, with Johnny and the cast attending the red carpet. Worldwide, the movie started to be released few days later starting
in November 9. The mystery thriller film directed by Kenneth Branagh, which
plays the detective Hercule Poirot, is the fourth screen adaptation based on the 1934
novel of the same name by Agatha Christie. In this movie, Johnny plays Edward Ratchett, an unscrupulous good-looking
gangster and businessman with a dark secret.
> Synopsis: A lavish trip through
Europe quickly unfolds into a race against time to solve a murder aboard a
train. Everyone’s a suspect when Detective Hercule Pairot arrives to
interrogate all passengers and search for clues before the killer can strike
* Before this movie Johnny had
already worked with most of the cast:
– This is the fourth movie in which
Johnny and Willem Dafoe are cast together after Platoon (1986), Cry-Baby
(1990), and Once Upon a Time in Mexico (2003).
– This is the third collaboration with
Johnny and Penélope Cruz working together after Blow (2001) and Pirates of the
Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (2011).
– This is the second movie in which
Johnny and Michelle Pfeiffer works together after Dark Shadows (2012).
It takes 14 minutes to Johnny
appear as Edward Ratchett.
4 small scenes of Johnny were
deleted and release later on the Blu-Ray DVD. (I’ll be posting later)
This was the fifth time Johnny played a gangster character, after
Joseph D. Pistone in Donnie Brasco (1997), George Jung in Blow (2001), John Dillinger
in Public Enemies (2009) and James “Whitey” Bulger (which was
killed this week) in Black Mass (2015)
* This is considered Johnny’s latest movie screened worldwide in which he appears in flesh and blood. In “Sherlock Gnomes”, released last March he only lent his voice.
Happy second anniversary for the
“Murder on the Orient Express”!
The movie had its first screening two years ago, last October 3 in UK.
